Toehold Technology Wins First Prize of 2024 Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award

On August 26, the 2024 Shanghai Science and Technology Awards were officially announced. The project titled "Key Technologies for Disaster Mechanism and Resilience Enhancement of Rock Engineering in Plateau Environments", jointly submitted by Shanghai Toehold Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Toehold Technology"), Tongji University, Tibet Transportation Development Group Co., Ltd., CCCC First Highway Consultants Co., Ltd., Tibet University, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Shijiazhuang Tiedao University, and Shanghai Chengtou Highway Investment (Group) Co., Ltd., was honored with the First Prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award!

The project conducted systematic research on the disaster mechanisms and resilience enhancement technologies for rock engineering in plateau environments. It revealed the multi-field coupling disaster mechanisms of fractured rock masses under plateau conditions, uncovered the cross-scale disaster evolution principles of plateau rock engineering, and established corresponding failure analysis methods. The team independently developed monitoring equipment suitable for complex plateau environments, proposed a collaborative dynamic early warning method and precise disaster control technology for plateau rock engineering hazards. Furthermore, the project introduced a resilience evaluation method considering disaster evolution processes and a multi-objective optimization decision-making model, establishing a theoretical framework for enhancing the disaster resilience of rock engineering in plateau environments.

Originating from urgent engineering needs, the project exemplified close collaboration between research institutes and frontline enterprises, achieving a full chain of innovation from theoretical breakthroughs to technological development and engineering applications. The outcomes have been applied in major national projects such as the Lhasa-Nyingchi Railway, Lhasa-Shigatse Expressway, and National Highway 318, generating significant social and economic benefits.
